Saturday April 16th marked the 2011 Relay for Life event at the track at California State University, Fullerton. The event began at 10 AM bringing together students and community members in association with three and a half million people across the world to celebrate the lives of those who have been battling cancer and raise to funds for research. In support of the event musician Danny Hauger was contacted and was the first performer to the stage in a series of all day music.
Neda Ghafourian serves as the Relay for Life Entertainment Chair and reached out to Hauger, who is an alumni of Cal State Fullerton. Hauger was the first musician to be contacted and performed a solo act in front of the hundreds in attendance preparing for 24 hours of a marathon to fund raise for cancer research. This was the second charity gig for Danny Hauger since returning from Casa Estrella orphanage in Rosarito, Mexico.
Danny Hauger has been recording music since his days of playing live on the radio in San Rafel, California in 2005. In 2010 he released his first digital double length album, “Songs to Wake Up To” that blends acoustic, alternative, and instrumental music. Saturday marked his first return gig to Cal State Fullerton.
“Anytime I get the chance to play on campus is great for me. The opportunity to help fund raise for cancer research and play my music makes it all the better and I’m grateful for the opportunity,” Hauger said before taking the stage talking to Relay coordinators.
Hauger’s set was comprised of five original songs back to back including songs from his recent album. His electric rendition of “Losing Sleep” had the audience clapping along creating a rhythm base for his solo guitar act born and raised in Stockton, California.
“The energy today was great,” he said afterwards. “The crowd here was giving back and that made for an interactive set which is always great”. The crowd clearly responded to the increase in enthusiasm around them and on the stage. Hauger’s solo electric performance was surprising blend of upbeat melody and powerful chord progressions usually kept to an acoustic role.
“Songs to Wake Up To” from Danny Hauger Music is composed of nineteen songs and is available for download at digital retailers including iTunes and Amazon. He offers many of his songs for free download at www.dannyhauger.com through clicking onto his music page.
