1. Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider (above, in the middle) had to testify at a hearing, organized by Parents Music Resource Center because of the song “We are not gonna take it”. Their argument was that the song promoted violence against teachers and parents. Dee went to the hearing in torn jeans and well, wearing little eyeliner. His “defense” was in his back jean pocket, a bunch of papers that all crumpled. However the PMRC members weren’t ready for what came next. Dee was perfectly articulate, his command for English was perfect and his argument for the song and against the ridiculousness of the claim. The committee had no choice but to drop everything. While the band’s drag queen costumes (their words, not mine) may not be for everybody, they provide great value to rock n’roll. The song is perfect for letting all the negativity, anger and angst out and having fun with it. This song makes a rock-loving teenager’s life much easier. It is a great song, an absolute MTV favorite.

“OH WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT

NO, WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT

OH WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE

WE'VE GOT THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE AND

THERE AIN'T NO WAY WE'LL LOSE IT

THIS IS OUR LIFE, THIS IS OUR SONG

WE'LL FIGHT THE POWERS THAT BE JUST

DON'T PICK OUR DESTINY 'CAUSE

YOU DON'T KNOW US, YOU DON'T BELONG

OH WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT

NO, WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT

OH WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE

OH YOU'RE SO CONDESCENDING

YOUR GALL IS NEVER ENDING

WE DON'T WANT NOTHIN', NOT A THING FROM YOU

YOUR LIFE IS TRITE AND JADED

BORING AND CONFISCATED

IF THAT'S YOUR BEST, YOUR BEST WON'T DO

OH.....................

OH.....................

WE'RE RIGHT/YEAH

WE'RE FREE/YEAH

WE'LL FIGHT/YEAH

YOU'LL SEE/YEAH

OH WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT

NO, WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT

OH WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE”

2. Because the rock band Kiss had wild videos, my friend used to think they were a death metal band of some sort when she was little. She laughed when I played her some of their songs. Yes, they rock but they are actually sweet and funny, rather than scary.

3. The “myth” that Kiss Records songs (lyrics) worship the devil when played in backwards has been done in films and TV Shows, like That 70’s Show. Of course, parents are mocked. If you really are playing records backwards, you do need to get a life.

4. All the wild/weird/scary stunts you see at Ozzy Osbourne’s videos are mostly the idea of his wife Sharon. She has been the manager and marketer during his youth as well. It is not just the reality show.

5. Ozzy and Sharon used to have one weird relationship. There was violence- they both beat each other up. There was unfaithfulness on both sides. And there was an incident when Ozzy was very heavily drunk, he tried to kill her. But of course years later when Sharon was diagnosed with cancer, Ozzy cried his eyes out. I read all this in the biography of Sharon. You might enjoy it, it is a very “intriguing read”. And weird doesn’t even cover it.

6. Rocker Billy Idol made a guest appearance on the romantic comedy The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The movie was made in 1998 but the story takes place in the 80s. Billy Idol meets Adam’s character. He is impressed by Adam’s romantic story and helps him in winning the girl over. The girl’s boyfriend gets mad and wants to attack Billy, but a big (both as a fan and as a guy) Billy Idol fan “suggests” that no one is to harm Billy. It is a great film full of 80s popular music, mostly rock n’ roll.In one scene, Sandler’s on-and-off girlfriend is wearing his Van Halen T-shirt and Sandler panics and tells her to take it off before the band break up. Yeah, she is not a nice character. It is a sweet and fun movie, recommended for anyone who wants to get nostalgic.

7. Ozzy’s wife Sharon has a small part in the movie It’s a Boy/Girl Thing It is a romantic comedy with the emphasis on the comedy and getting romantic only towards the end. Sharon plays the boy’s (Kevin Zegers) mother. A song from Ozzy is included in the soundtrack and plays during the romantic moment. The song is called Goodbye to Romance. Yes, Prince of Darkness has been known to be a Prince of Romance at some bizarre points in life.

wonderful as normal sweetie. I love ozzy and Billy well... he is just such a naughty boy!! LOL... Loved the wedding singer too, great film but then I am such a fan of Drew... love her!

Drew rocks. I love most of her work, but especially The Wedding Singer, He is just not that into you, Never been kissed and of course donnie darko:) by the way, you should check out my blog. I have a lot of stuff on drew.

p.s: ozzy is just bad. idol is hot and bad. And I do appreciate the difference;)

Will check you out when I get the chance! My fav Drew has to be 50 first dates! I can't remember how many times I have seen that great film!

that's one sweet, kind of surreal movie. Plus, it is too romantic for one's own good, especially for single girls like me. I mean which guy would put in that effort? Honestly? :) I think I do have a weakness for Never Benn Kissed because I adore Michael Vartan. Loved him in Alias. Well, would love to have your thoughts on the blog. you know it is on pinartarhan.com/blog ;)

book marked your blog, so we can have a good chat about our fav lovey dovey movies!

I'd love that :) thanks :)

Love that Twisted Sister song. And I love the video. Where is the violence? Should we not consider that Tom and Jerry or Roadrunner might also be violent?

Ha ha, according to them, we should. Too bad some people can't enjoy rocknroll...

What a cool article. I was inspired by the likes of Kiss, Ozzy and of course, Twisted Sister. I bet that committee was shocked that a rock star can actually articulate himself so well. If they didn't have brains (rock stars), they wouldn't be the greats that they are. Thumbs up article!

thanks, richard. well, the commitee should have worked on something productive and useful than try to stop people having fun through musicians who got them. I love Twisted Sister and Kiss, especially. Ozzy made some great stuff too. Some people just get hung up on the make-up...
