Chart Topping Canadian Singer Songwriter With A Gritty Sound

This is an article about Sean Reyes, an independent singer-songwriter from Ontario. He has overcome obstacles and he self-promoted his way to awards and top positions on charts. His mix of acoustic rock, pop, pop-punk, and alternative music sets him apart from artists of the same genre. Think Bon Jovi, Dashboard Confessional, and Daughtry blended into one voice.

Every musician has a unique story that makes them stand out in the industry.  Sean Reyes, a singer-songwriter from Oakville, Ontario, is no exception.  Before holding a number one position at the Indie Music Countdown on The Radio Cafe, which is an FM station founded by Emmy Award winner, Christopher Ewing, Sean Reyes grew up from humble beginnings.  Playing piano at age seven, then eventually singing for a local church choir, Sean Reyes changed the face of its music program.  He helped make listening to the choir enjoyable for churchgoers of all ages.

Growing up with many musical influences, including Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls, Dashboard Confessional, and Daughtry, Sean Reyes has been able to carve out his own niche in the last several years.  His punk rock edge has been injected into his singer-songwriter material, gaining him crossover appeal on many different radio formats, including top 40, adult contemporary, alternative, and modern rock.

Sean Reyes suffered a serious head injury in 2009, but he was determined to recover quickly and he kept a positive mind, focusing on his music.  He applied successful Do It Yourself (DIY) methods in promoting his music and was constantly writing new songs.  Utilizing how the music industry was rapidly changing has been a key to his success.  More artists are working independently by choice or they gain necessary Internet buzz before major labels will even give them a shot at a deal.

He was eventually found by Acoustic Alternative Radio later in 2009.  He was able to reach out and gain fans well beyond his local reach in Ontario.  Fans from Texas, California, Maine, and even Brazil have shown Sean Reyes praise for his music.  The station played two of his songs, including the song which would be his biggest song to date, "All I Ever Need".  He also released an official video for "All I Ever Need", which can be found on YouTube.  This video has comments from well-wishers, including a devoted fan from the Philippines. It will also be one of the main singles off of his forthcoming album called Know Thyself, which will be released during the third or fourth quarter of 2012.

Sean Reyes just finished a trip early in May 2012 to Hollywood, California for the Indie Music Channel Awards at the House of Blues.  He was nominated for five awards.  Among the competition he faced from around the world, he was happy just to be nominated, but was especially excited to win the Best Male Pop Artist award.

Sean currently has nine videos on his YouTube page; many of him playing various songs live with his acoustic guitar.  He is currently finishing up his album, connecting with new fans every day, and solidifying himself as an independent fixture in the music industry.
